- Ginastera was born in Buenos Aires. His father was Catalan, and his mother was Italian.
- When he was in the United States from 1945-1947, he studied with composer Aaron Copland.
- Ginastera divided his music into three different periods: the “Objective Nationalism” period (1934-1948), the “Subjective Nationalism” period (1948-1958), and the “Neo-Expressionism” period (1958-1983).
