Young Musician’s Competition

The Young Musicians Competition provides an opportunity for students to perform for professional feedback from Columbus Symphony Orchestra musicians and collegiate faculty from around central Ohio. The winner of the Concerto Competition will be the recipient of the Lois H. Allen Concerto Prize in the amount of $1,000, generously donated by the Friends of the Symphony.

Young Musician Showcase

Students who place high in the divisions may also have the opportunity to perform in the Ohio Theatre lobby prior to Columbus Symphony Masterworks concerts.

2020 Winner

Congratulations to Cecilia Martin, whose violin performance took first place in the 2020 Young Musicians Competition. Cecilia performed the 3rd movement of Mendelssohn’s Concerto in E Minor, Opus 64. Twenty-one students in grades 8-12 participated in the Concerto Division with three moving on to the finals. Other finalists were Mathias Koo, violin and Anna Linder, violin. The competition took place at the Capital University Conservatory of Music on February 1 & 2.

Cecilia will perform her winning concerto with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra at a future concert in the Ohio Theatre.
